Introduction to Ductile Iron Manhole Cover

Ductile iron manhole covers are a type of ductile iron product. Ductile iron obtains spherical graphite through spheroidization and inoculation treatment, effectively improving the mechanical properties of cast iron, especially enhancing plasticity and toughness, resulting in higher strength than carbon steel.

Ductile iron is a high-strength cast iron material developed in the 1950s, with comprehensive properties similar to steel. Based on its excellent performance, it has been successfully used to cast some castings with complex stress, high requirements for strength, toughness, and wear resistance.

Characteristics of Ductile Iron Manhole Cover

Good resilience: The impact value is similar to that of medium carbon steel and more than 10 times that of gray iron materials.
Strong corrosion resistance: The water spray corrosion test showed that the corrosion rate after 90 days was only 1/40 of steel pipes and 1/10 of that of gray iron pipes. Its service life is twice that of gray iron pipes and five times that of ordinary steel pipes.
Good plasticity: The elongation rate is ≥7%, similar to that of high carbon steel, while the elongation rate of gray iron material is zero.
High strength: The tensile strength σb ≥ 420MPa and the yield strength σs ≥ 300MPa are the same as low-carbon steel and three times that of gray iron materials.
